Quarterly Recess Events

Four wellness events to motivate you in living a full life among friends, family and coworkers.

January - Break a Record

On the second day of each year, break one of your own records. You must plan ahead, be creative and involve any dimension of wellness. Then, announce on social media that you will be breaking this record and why that is important to you. Use hashtag #RecordBreaking

EXAMPLE: This January 2, I will break my own record of walking an indoor 5k before the end of “Shine on You Crazy Diamond” by Pink Floyd. It reminds me of a friend I lost and reminds me to be amazing.

July - Visit New Water

On the Saturday closest to July 4 (America’s Independence Day), visit a new body of water that you have never experienced. Once you get there, the rest is up to you. Swim, boat, kayak, or try something new. The objective is to provide a freshness to all of your senses. #NewWater

EXAMPLE:  Plan a trip to part of a river you have never experienced. Search some apps and read reviews then set off to a safe place to park. Unload your lawn chair and lunch. Enjoy the sights and sounds of water in nature.

March - Quarter Mile

During the last weekend of March, plan a quarter mile walk, run, sprint, wheel or bike as long as it is human powered. The catch is that it cannot be a straight line. It’s called the Most Agile Quarter Mile on Earth. The objective of this MaqMoe is to change direction. Use Hashtag #MaqMoe

EXAMPLE: On Saturday or Sunday at the end of March, check the weather and plan a quarter mile (400 yards) distance that you can move as fast as possible. Forests are the best for this but be creative!

October - Sleep Outside

Depending which part of the world you are located, bundle (or not) accordingly. On the Saturday closest to mid-October (use your judgement with your college football schedule), sleep under the stars, in a tent or overhead shelter. The purpose is fresh air! Use hashtag #NightAir

EXAMPLE: This can be done in your backyard or porch. Check the temperatures and precipitation then pick your bundleage. Stay out however long you can handle but just think EVERYONE at a point in history HAD to do this.
